BARRA GRANDE IT IS ON  PENÍNSULA DE MARAÚ

 Located between Morro de São Paulo and Itacaré, two natural paradises to the south of Bahia, Penísula de Maraú is part of these great destinations. Among its natural beauties, there are fresh water ponds, mangroves, virgin forests, coconut trees, natural pools and beaches filled with reefs. The access by car is a little difficult, which is not so bad, because it helps to preserve this small piece of sky.

ATTRACTIONS

Natural pools

On the Taipus de Fora Beach, where our real estate development is located, there is one of the most beautiful natural pools of the region. There, you can sight reefs, corals and fish of all colors.

The access is through the beach by Jeeps. The return may be using the tracks through the woods.

Waterfall - Cachoeira do Tremembé

This tour is the best way to get to know Baía de Camamu. The start point is

Barra Grande. On the way to Cachoeira de Tremembé, the boat tours take the tourist through the rivers Rio do Céu and Maraú and go through the mangrove. When reaching the Waterfall, the ideal is to have a refreshing shower at its waters.

Island - Ilha da Pedra Furada

This rock formation island has a stone arch made by the nature itself and covered by palm trees and trees. In the low tide, many ponds are formed, which are ideal for diving.

The vegetation of Península do Maraú is very diversified. Its ecosystem is estuarine, with mangroves, restingas and the remaining of the Atlantic Forest.

 History and Culture

The first inhabitants of Camamu were the Tupiniquins Indians. Around

1560, a big village called "Aldeia de Nossa Senhora da Assunção de Macamamu" was created. At that year, its category was increased to a parish. Between 1624 and 1640, it was invaded by the Dutch several times, suffering with the piracy. In 1634, the inhabitants of the region succeeded in resisting a little longer, but eventually, the place was looted and dominated. In 1693, its category was increased to a village with the name of Camamu and afterwards, to a municipality (with the same name).

LOCATION AND ACCESS

For those who come from Rio de Janeiro, the best option is to get the Highway BR-101 (Prestes Maia) up to Travessão. From there, you take the Highway BR-030 (Salvador via ferry boat). It is about 40 km up to the city of Camamu. It is advisable to travel this route in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. The best access is seaway, crossing the Baía de Camamu. There are boats, catamarans and schooners that ride this route.
